Churchill Brothers FC Goa against Indian Arrows
Churchill Brothers FC Goa - ride on Plaza to victory against Indian Arrows
As expected Churchill Brothers FC completed a 2-1 victory over Indian Arrows on Republic Day. The Red Machines are now second with 28 points, two behind Chennai City FC who also carved out a win then other day.
Willis Plaza scored both goals to go right on top of the scoring charts with 15 goals. Incredible indeed for him and for the club. Plaza, who has also adjudged the Hero of the Match, scored his first in the 22nd minute off a header while his second came in the 45th minute that gave Churchill the lead after Deepak Tangri’s equaliser for Indian Arrows in the 38th minute.
Indian Arrows tried making the most of the set-pieces that they were awarded, but couldn’t find that equaliser that they were looking for. Indian Arrows’ efforts were nearly rewarded when a penalty was awarded to them in the 84th minute.
Unfortunately, Sanjeev Stalin, who took the shot, could not convert it thanks to an outstanding save from Churchill goalkeeper James Kithan. This probably was the closest that the Arrows got to score the equaliser in the second half. The game thereafter saw numerous attacking moves from both sides but the scoreline remained unchanged at 2-1 to Churchill Brothers FC Goa’s favour.
The red brigade could not have asked for a better Republic Day gift and the large numbers at the Tilak Maidan in Vasco went home with a song in their hearts. It was another fantastic show from the Red Machines as every player put his best foot forward to ensure the the team goes home with full points.
Yes, every point is crucial and more so now as the long-drawn league slowly reaches its climax.
Chennai City will be playing against Real Kashmir on Jan 28 before the Kashmiris come calling at the Tilak Maidan on Jan 31. Bring them on…..!
